About Mount Kadam Wildlife Reserve

Mount Kadam Wildlife Reserve is situated in Uganda's Eastern Region, encompassing the area around Mount Kadam, a rugged and prominent mountain rising to approximately 3,063 meters (10,047 feet). This reserve preserves a variety of ecosystems, ranging from montane forests, bamboo zones, bushland, and savanna to rocky outcrops at higher elevations. The reserve plays a crucial role in protecting diverse flora and fauna, including rare and endemic species such as the Mount Kadam vervet monkey and various birdlife characteristic of the Albertine Rift region. Mount Kadam has cultural and historical significance to local indigenous communities, who have traditional ties to the land. Visitors to the reserve can engage in hiking and trekking on established and less developed trails that climb toward the summit, offering superb views of the surrounding plains and distant mountain ranges. Wildlife viewing is a key attraction, with opportunities to observe primates, antelope, and an array of bird species. The reserve's remoteness and less frequent visitation add to its appeal for travelers seeking solitude and nature immersion. Access can be challenging due to limited infrastructure, but efforts to promote eco-tourism are growing. The area is ideal for experienced hikers, birdwatchers, and conservation enthusiasts interested in Uganda's diverse ecosystems outside of the more widely known national parks.
